It is fair to say that a large portion of the body of Christ, the church, is in heaven: But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect (Heb. 12.22-23 ESV). For nearly 2000 years Christians have understood the bible consistently as not permitting women to places of teaching and authority in the priesthood of the church. Of course, I believe, women can be professors in bible institutions and seminary, but should not be allowed teaching or ministerial offices in the local church. The Holy Spirit has taught this to believers universally from the time of the Apostles until now. Are the Egalitarians saying that they have new understanding of the bible that no one else has recognized? I would say they have a huge mountain to climb to make their point from either history or the bible. What is their real agenda and the spirit driving it? -Alex
