“Remembering” and “proclaiming” are what the scriptures instruct when observing the rite. Christians preach not themselves but Christ. Remembering Him, is an act that focuses on Christ and not ourselves. Since the elements are symbolic, the partakers of the rite are pointing to greater realities that have changed their lives and are testifying to these blessings.
