Jesus’ Return is Not Imminent

Not everything about the Return of Jesus is found in the Gospels. 2Th. 2.3 states: Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction (NIV).

The link below is to an article about aspects of Christ’s Return where the author encourages watchfulness because of Christ’s words about the aspect of imminency once the signs appear. Jesus also cautions His disciples about the end and not to expect it shortly. Jesus lists at least nine things that must happen before the ending of this age:

1. False Messiahs (Mt. 24.5)

2. Wars and rumors of wars (Mt. 24.6-7a.)

3. Famines and earthquakes (Mt. 24.7b.)

4. Christian persecution (Mt. 24.9)

5. Christian apostacy (Mt. 24.10)

6. Increase of false prophets (Mt. 24.11)

7. Christian love will turn cold (Mt. 24.12)

8. Worldwide announcement of the Gospel (Mt. 24.14)

9. The abomination that causes desolation (Mt. 24.15)

Therefore, Christ’s Return is not strictly imminent. However, Christians have another imminency with which they need to consider: their own mortality on earth.
