The Difference Between Biblical Law and Wisdom-in Brief

Deuteronomy sets before the people life and death (Dt. 30.19). It’s mainly a recounting of the Laws and of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt set before the people to show the Lord’s reliability. Proverbs speaks to sons of the covenant to instruct in wise behavior. Wisdom is far different from inviolate laws in purpose for what the literature sets out to do. The power of sin is the Law in Deuteronomy. Forgiveness for folks is shown by the sacrifices of the Temple and point to God’s ultimate sacrifice in Jesus. Living by keeping the Law referred to the promised Son of Man (Gal. 3.19). Proverbs, on the other hand, teaches believers how to navigate their time on earth, a fundamental difference from what the Law sought to accomplish.

Additionally, The Law was very limited in its scope: it was only for those to whom it was given (Rom. 3.19). Now, a better hope is presented since Jesus ever lives to mediate for His people: For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God (Heb.7.18-9 ESV).
