The blessings and curses of the Mosaic Covenant showed the Israelites the seriousness of the Law. By itself the Law was holy, righteous and good and worked in hearts to illumine sin in the individual. God didn’t leave the people to descend into despair however since He instituted the Tabernacle where sin was shown that it was able to be expiated by sacrifice. This imaged Jesus’ work on the cross which forgave individuals both retroactively and prospectively who trusted in Him. The New Covenant provided a better hope by which we are able to draw near to God.
