Eyes on the Prize-Phil. 3.14-15

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you (ESV)

In the mind, having arrived at a place we become stationary. This is not what God intended since His call is upward and dynamic. The sense of arrival usually involves human perceptions of accomplishment in human spheres such as awards from institutions. The swagger Dr. Fesko speaks about is an exhibition of the old man ascendant thinking his knowledge is complete. It is not.

Why didn’t Jesus choose scholars instead of Galilean peasants to transform them into witnesses? Well, in one case Jesus did choose a scholar (Saul of Tarsus) to be His instrument. But, even in Saul’s case, he recognized that his accomplishments were uncomparable with God’s righteousness in Christ and provision from Him (see Phil. 3.3-8).
