Plato probably coined the idea of need fruiting discovery when he wrote: “our need will be the real creator.” The English proverb: Necessity is the mother of invention is the same idea. The following link recounts the verbal sparring match between two great scholars who disagreed on topographical aspects of Jerusalem. Both individuals were limited to physical observation and consulting primary sources. Neither scholar was completely correct, but the debate bore fruit in that it yielded today’s better understanding of that physical site. Therefore, study and debate (honestly) and it may bear the fruit of subsequent knowledge.
